Our Process

A Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) Assessment determines the potential risk a site faces from bushfire attack, including direct flame contact, ember attack and radiant heat exposure.

The outcome from a BAL assessment undertaken as per AS 3959. (Australian Standard for the Construction of Buildings in Bushfire-Prone Areas) dictates building materials and methods required to make a property resilient to bushfires

In the course of conducting a BAL assessment our assessor evaluates the following:

  • Vegetation type around your property,

  • The proximity of the building to the vegetation

  • Slope

  • Fire Danger Index (FDI): The regional fire danger rating for your location

Obtaining an accurate BAL Assessment early in your project can help avoid delays, reduce unexpected building costs and ensure compliance with planning requirements.

Before starting your project, you should confirm whether your property is located within a designated Bushfire Prone Area. If you are, you will need a BAL Assessment.

You can check your property using the official WA Government mapping system located here.
